Thursday, December 8th from 5-8pm Everyone is welcome to frolic on their own to Jamaica Plain businesses to enjoy shopping, cocktails, treats, discounts, door prizes and giveaways. We organized a check-in program for senior citizens during the pandemic. We have more than 100 volunteers, and we have made north of 20,000 phone calls to check in with seniors. We did another push for gift cards for supermarkets to get people access to food during the pandemic. I say that to note what an honor it is to play a role in coordinating that neighbor-to-neighbor support. The weather was perfect and it was great seeing friends & neighbors while supporting one of our favorite parks.
The day after I won the election I had advocates and friends of the JP library reach out to me on how we could get that started. It took us a couple of years and we finally got support from Mayor Menino and then Mayor Walsh. It’s an incredible ten million dollar renovation that’s happening. O’Malley’s predecessor as District 6 councilor, John Tobin, also left for a job at a local private employer with frequent contact with government – Northeastern University.

We watched it and then all of a sudden there was that scene and not only that but the dialogue I may adopt as my new campaign slogan.
In 2013, he was the only councilor to call for a citywide vote for a proposed casino in East Boston, saying all voters should have a say. In a letter to supporters, O’Malley also celebrated his constituent services work, getting streets plowed, gas leaks repaired, and telephone poles moved. And he noted the work to renovate Millennium Park, Jamaica Pond, the Jamaica Plain library branch and the Egleston Square firehouse, as well as the planned Billings Field renovation.
I’ve pushed for better policies for housing, and the JP/Rox Plan, which is controversial but something i’m proud of. New development that is being built is using affordability metrics, which all cities are dealing with gentrification and displacement, and we have to do to make sure people can stay in the neighborhood. Vicinity produces the steam it uses to heat office towers, labs, and hospitals at its Kendall plant in Cambridge, its Kneeland Street plant near South Station, and a smaller backup site in the Back Bay. The company wants to eventually tear down the Kneeland Street plant and use electricity from the region’s grid as well as heat pumps to make steam at Kendall. Vicinity would need a third pipe across the Charles River, in addition to the two it has now, to provide the steam to Boston that would be lost when the Kneeland Street plant is retired. 2010–2011O’Malley pushed for the expansion of a drug drop off program in Boston as well as the creation of a Silver Alert system for citizens with Alzheimer’s disease and other cognitive impairments.
