Do not wash hair with conditioner or a combination shampoo-conditioner immediately before applying this medicine. Follow product-specific instructions for length of application and product removal. All products should be rinsed from the hair over a sink or tub to limit skin exposure; do not use hot water. In general, do not re-wash the hair for 1 to 2 days after use. Benzyl alcohol is found inmany naturally occurring plant products such as Balsam of Peru and is also a component of essential oils such as hyacinth, jasmine, and ylang ylang oils.
Short-chain alcohols are often used in styling products such as hairsprays and hair gels. (i.e. ethanol) to achieve their fast drying properties on hair. While applying the product on hair the alcohol evaporates immediately and mainly the polymers stay on hair and bring the hold. On the other hand, long-chain fatty alcohols, which have totally different properties and appearance are found in moisturising shampoos and conditioners. Here they add “slip and glide” effects for easier detangling, and are designed to hydrate and improve the condition of the hair with a more even cuticle.
Tell your doctor right away if you develop worsening redness or pus. Remember that this medication has been prescribed because your doctor has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the do perms permanently damage your hair risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects. In one study, 5% Benzyl Alcohol elicited a reaction, and in another study, 2% Benzoic Acid did likewise.
These fatty alcohols help keep the price down in products as they replace more expensive polymers. Table 2 shows the effect of different levels of names preservatives on viscosity of a hair conditioning composition comprising different bases. The table also shows the effect on silicone fouling.
