Though it might take a while to traverse, Torch’s length does make it a perfect lake for jet-skiing, tubing, and other water recreation. That is, when you aren’t hanging out on its famous sandbar, of course.

There was a surprising lack of restaurants and stores on the lake. In fact, the only restaurant on the water isDockside, where we ate lunch.
If you’re looking for a cozy weekend getaway and you’re not interested in swimming in the lake, then I urge you to rent a cabin on the lake and visit sometime in the fall or winter. Even if the lake is iced over, it’s not recommended to skate or venture out on the ice due to it being too thin and breaking. Because Northern Michigan experiences all four seasons, including extreme winters; the best time to visit Torch Lake is in the summer.
